The Five Pillars of Optimal Health:
You might have heard the various aspects of your life are interconnected. Similarly, what goes on in your head affects your life and wellbeing. It is vital to ensure that there is a balance in all five aspects of your life… physical, emotional, intellectual, spiritual and relational to maintain good health and lead a happy life.
If one core aspect or area of your life, let’s say relationship, becomes too stressful, your life would become challenging. Lack of sleep can lead to fatigue, poor concentration as well as a number of adverse changes in your life. Remember that all aspects of your life are interlinked closely and to live your life to its fullest, you need to treat them as one unit.
Since a variety of problems can contribute to the deterioration of not only your physical health but also your peace of mind, this means any approach to wellness should also be an all-rounder one. This leaves us with one plan alone – and that is a holistic approach!
We are Unique in Our Own Way:
Every person is unique, and the holistic approach is one that will do the trick and add colors and happiness to your life. This method requires you to develop a thorough understanding of your body as well as your lifestyle choices. To overcome problems and challenges, you need to make positive changes.
This starts with quitting smoking and reducing the consumption of alcohol. Of course, giving up old unhealthy habits isn’t easy, but you can seek professional help and find alternatives like nicotine patches to help you quit smoking, finding a sober buddy, getting a trainer to work out and/or a holistic health coach to learn to make better eating choices.
The most important suggestion that I recommend is making sure what we eat is nutritious and organic. I nourish my body with wholesome organic fruits and vegetables. If you lack stamina, give up junk and fattening foods and start moving! That’s right. A healthy diet should be complemented with physical activity. Remember there are a wide range of yoga classes, from beginners who want a slow flow or restorative class, to hot yoga and Buti yoga for those who want to add more cardio to their practice.
Research reveals that sitting for extended periods is as harmful as smoking. Light to moderate intensity exercise and/or yoga, on the other hand, not only will help you stay healthy but also fit and lean. Moreover, this combo would help you stay active, focused and energetic most of the time.
Watch that Watch!!
Time management also plays a crucial role in shaping your mental and physical health. Not getting an adequate amount of sleep leads to lack of energy, which further leads to a list of problems including laziness, poor performance at work, obesity, and stress etc.
If you think seven hours of sleep is what your body needs, sleep for seven hours every day no matter what. Our body needs a certain amount of rest, and if we fail to give it that, then we only make things worse for ourselves.
Poor time management is one of the biggest stress triggers which means it can lead to problems like high blood pressure, migraines, cardiovascular diseases, etc. Plan out your daily routine and try your best to follow it.
Surround Yourself with Positivity
Last but not the least, clean up your outer world and treat yourself nicely. Surrounding yourself with people or things you don’t like only contributes to the deterioration of your mental health. Clean your space, your car and get rid of toxic people that bring you down.
Once you have removed all the mess, you will feel different the very next time you go for a drive. Furthermore, identify and pursue the things which bring you joyful pleasures that have been missing from your life.
So, if you are in search of positive change, this small start is enough to get you going. But remember, this holistic approach will only be useful if you don’t procrastinate…don’t wait until tomorrow or the day after….START TODAY!
