What To Expect At Your First Biofeedback Session
By: Tracie Graves, Allison Blakewell & Danae Fenti
Definition of Biofeedback: Biofeedback is the process of gaining greater awareness of many physiological functions primarily using instruments that provide information on the activity of those same systems, with a goal of being able to manipulate them at will.
To begin a biofeedback session, you will sit with your practitioner and go through a series of questions regarding health and lifestyle goals. Once you are in the system, harnesses that contain sensors for gathering measurements are placed around the head, both wrists and ankles and then connect to the machine itself. These harness bands should fit properly; not too snug or too loose and should be comfortable for you throughout the session. Then you will sit back in a semi reclined position and simply relax as the device makes its connection with you energetically, we call this “calibration”. Once complete, your therapist will prepare the machine to run the initial “test” and leave the room as you do so. The test takes around three minutes. After testing, your therapist will return and your biofeedback session begins! Each session lasts from 60-90 minutes depending on what type of session it is. During your session, most people do not feel much, usually they are relaxed or more “in tune” with their bodies and what is happening. You will receive a wealth of information about the stress levels in your body and how they are affecting you. You will also leave with a sense of what to do next for yourself to continue on your path to wellness.
To prepare for a session, one of the best things you can do is have a list of health goals you would like to achieve. This may include any other complimentary therapies you are currently doing, a list of any medications or supplements you are taking, etc. Biofeedback works best if you are hydrated and relaxed. Taking time to do some deep breathing and drinking quality purified water prior will enhance your session because it improves the interface, or connection the machine will have with your energy field. Spirulina is a type of blue-green algae that is loaded with nutrients and anti-oxidants. It can help boost cellular energy and clear your toxin load, making the machine and technology more able to read the body. You can take spirulina 3-5 days before your appointment to prepare. It is also recommended that you bring some purified water in a container such as bottled water, filtered water in a glass container, etc. This is so you can go home with some of the beneficial corrective frequencies that were administered throughout your session. After your session, you will drink half of this water that day and the other half the next day. Think of it as your energy medicine for the body!
You will receive a report on things you can start to incorporate, but it’s up to you to implement them into your lifestyle. The few days following a session you may feel tired and need to rest a bit more or may feel energized and livelier! Just remember during this time there are many shifts going on in your energy field and it is important to incorporate great self-care and stress reduction techniques as much as possible, as well as eating nourishing foods and staying hydrated. This is all to make the most out of your session and continue the amazing shifts that can happen from biofeedback! It is a relationship between you, your practitioner and the machine and it takes all three to create lasting benefits.
A session takes anywhere from an hour and up to two hours depending on what type of therapies you desire and the cost ranges from $75-$250.
For instance, the Wellness Report is the full spectrum of what we can do. This therapy takes a full two hours and is our most costly and in-depth session. You will leave with an extensive, full report generated by the machine, which will give you a thorough rundown of all that is out of balance in the body, nutrition and lifestyle recommendations, coaching during the session, resources for education and a follow up email from the practitioner.
The next tier available is more specific in nature. This is for someone with a goal in mind and helps explain how to attain this goal. This takes 60-90 minutes and costs $150-$200. This includes a generated report, specific therapies from the machine and follow up from practitioner afterwards. Some of the specific things we can do here are a full nutrition profile, support for a particular health concern, or a jumpstart towards a particular goal such as weight loss, allergy support or stress reduction.
Our last tier is for specific therapies. This is an hour session and cost $75. This is for someone who wants to come in and experience a particular therapy, such as Overall Wellness Boost, Attention Deficit Support, General Stress Reduction, Weight Loss Boost, and many others. These are therapies done without any consultation, other than our initial intake consult. This type does not include a report or follow up and the therapist is available nearby but not in the room the entire time. We will set you up, make you comfortable and allow the machine to do all the work! This is a great way to reduce stress in the body after illness, surgery or to just experience what the QXCI can do for you.
