Our Traveling Yogi
Italy, Picking Cherries and Healing Wounds
Ciao Bella! Ciao Bello! Buongiorno!

This month my travels have taken me to Bella Italia. Northern Italy, the piedmont region. The feeling here is pure vacation. The sounds are that of nature. The breeze is warm and slightly floral. The locals are bronze from spending time in their garden or at the lake. The stores close from noon to 4pm to escape the heat and everyone meets at the local café for a mid-afternoon pick me up. So, when in ‘Rome’, do as the Romans do…take a break, or many, from your work and simply enjoy life.
Aspiring to fit in with the locals and gain some bronze tones myself, I grab my Desire Map book and head to the local café. Sitting at Elio’s Bar, the local café, overlooking Lago di Maggiore and surrounded by lush mountains, I sip an iced Crodino (the non- alcoholic answer to Campari) and munch on olives as my thoughts drift to my core-desired feelings (how I most want to feel every day in my life) and how I can generate them. I want to feel joy and peace. Yoga and meditation makes me feel that! A smile sweeps across my face as the wind grazes my cheek. The sun here is warm in a sweet way, not as torching and unforgiving as in Dallas in mid-July at noon. Now, where can I find some yoga in this little mountain town?
On day two of my stay, my hostess gives me a tour of her incredible garden and casually points to a lush cherry tree, “They’re ripe and ready! If you want some, there’s the ladder. Take as many as you like.” Fresh cherries?! Yes, yes please! I rise early the next day to beat the heat and get my hands on those bright red little goodies. As I stand on the ladder breathing through my fear of heights, looking at the lake in the distance whilst snacking on the juiciest cherries, it comes to me…I will do my yoga practice right here in the garden.
I roll out my mat and decide on my most favorite Yoga Meditation, Ra Ma Da Sa Sa Say So Hung: a meditation for healing. The Healthy, Happy, Holy Organization describes it as “the ultimate healing tool,” one that has been practiced by Kundalini Yoga practitioners for over four and a half decades. I love this meditation because you can generate transformative healing results for yourself and others within minutes of practicing it, whether you are traveling or at home.
The meditation is quite simple.
Sit in easy pose, (sitting on the floor with your legs crossed) with your spine long and straight and your chin slightly tilted towards your chest to ensure the alignment of the spine.
Your elbows are tucked into your sides with your arms firmly planted on your ribs and your palms are perfectly flat and facing upward.
Your fingers are side by side and your thumb is spread from the other fingers.
Close your eyes.
Throughout the meditation visualize the person, people or yourself that you want to send healing.
Chant the mantra Ra Ma Da Sa Sa Say So Hung for 11 to 31 minutes.
I’ve described the meditation in far greater detail and linked the music to accompany the meditation for you over on my Blog at www.violaglink.com
I sit on my mat in the garden. Close my eyes. I hear the chirping of birds and Milo, the lazy town watch-dog, barking off in the distance. I visualize myself, my closest friends, my mother, and the world. I begin to chant, tapping into the energies of the sun, moon, earth and infinite spirit for deep deep healing.
Tears of gratitude and release begin to flow down my cheeks and as I come out of the meditation I breathe a thank you into the sky.
I see us all healed, strong, vibrant and healthy.
So, dear healthy friend, I leave you with this:
“Dear (Insert who you pray/talk to here) ,
I surrender all of my fears. My hurts. My wounds and my doubts to you now.
Replace any and all empty space within me with the most healing love and grace now.
Let healing wash through my body and radiate out into the world.
I am Joy.
And so it is.”
(Print me out. Cut me out. Put me in your wallet. Recite me every day.)
With Love and light and joy,
Till next month dear friend,
Viola
