How to Enhance Pure Potentiality Through Yoga

One of the seminal books on yoga is Deepak Chopra’s The Seven Spiritual Laws of Yoga: a work that is as entertaining as it is informative, profound as it is easy to read. The work encourages us to follow yoga’s seven spiritual laws, which are closely aligned with Chopra’s The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success. The first law is called The Law of Pure Potentiality; it asserts that “at the core of your being, you are pure awareness. This realm of pure awareness is the domain of all possibilities and underlies creativity in all its forms.”
The Many Masks We Wear
Within us, notes Copra, lies pure potential to be happy, knowledgeable, intuitive, balanced, harmonious, and even blissful! In daily life, we are forced to wear many masks or play different roles: those of child, parent, employee, supervisor, etc., in turn. We don these masks to obtain approval, money, power. Our inner Self, however, our Soul, is immune to criticism, self-judgement, fear, or the need for control. When we practice yoga, the Law of Pure Potentiality reminds us that every movement arises out of infinite possibility. The author’s words are too beautiful to alter: “Every movement is a vibration, a wave on the ocean of life. The deeper the connection to the depths of the ocean, the more powerful is the wave that arises.”
How Can We Enlighten our Pure Potentiality through Yoga?
Chopra recommends three ways to enliven this law within ourselves. The first, is by cultivating stillness in body and mind. After yoga practice, for instance, around 20 minutes of pure silence is recommended. A natural setting is the ideal place to quiet the mind and meditate. In scriptures from countless religions and ancient belief systems, nature has always been strongly linked to spirituality and awareness. Because it places us in a mindful state, nature enhances our ability to experience awareness; a state in which we are connected with the life force that flows through all living things.
The second way to experience greater potentiality is by become fully aware of nature and the intelligence of all living things. Chopra recommends visiting a natural area, and opening our hearts and minds to the beautiful fragrances, sights, and sounds that surround us.
Finally, it is important to be non-judgemental; when we stop criticizing and judging everything we do, we achieve internal silence – the kind that is vital if we are ever to know ourselves.
The Seven Spiritual Laws of Yoga is a beautiful book that teaches us how to achieve the happiness and success we are all capable of, through yoga and spirituality. In this post, we have highlighted how time spent in nature is an important way to find internal peace and achieve the quiet, mindful state that is required to come into contact with our inner potentiality.
