Guided Imagery & Tibetan Bowls
Guided Imagery & Tibetan Bowls
Kenny Kolter Interviews Farahana
By: Kenny Kolter, Gong & Sound Meditation
I like to introduce people to the practitioners I have the pleasure to work with. Please meet my friend Farahana! One word to describe her is fearless. Another one is heart. She will approach anyone with a smile and a hug and complete presence to hear their stories, connect and make a new friend. She’ll pass out business cards to someone she just met at Starbucks and to a homeless person a block away. She is passionate, intelligent and a true woman of the world. She has lived all over the world and speaks several languages. She is an author, inspirational speaker, meditation leader and someone who inspires me with her drive and selflessness. Let’s meet this woman with “Moyo usio na hofu” that’s Swahili for “fearless heart”.
Kenny: How did you get started offering guided imagery & Tibetan bowl meditations?
Farahana: Back in 2015, I was going through some major life changes. My marriage of 7 years had just ended, and I knew it was time to go inward to do some soul searching. I started exploring the world of meditation and was drawn to guided meditations. I jokingly call this “meditations for dummies” or meditations for people who have never explored the practice. As you can imagine, my monkey mind was all over the place, and getting it to just be quiet was close to impossible. Listening to guided meditations helped me because I found the guiding voice helped me step by step through the process from guiding my breath, as well as, helping me visualize images in my mind that helped me feel more focused and relaxed.
After practicing the guided part for some time, I remember attending a session at the Dhyana Yoga Center in Plano. I participated in a gong meditation at the time led by you, and was amazed at how incorporating sound into meditation further enhanced the relaxation of the experience. Since then, I was sold! Kenny and I became fast friends, he also became my mentor and guide. His love, trust and guidance helped me find the dance of my soul.
Kenny: I know you are also a Reiki practitioner. Do you incorporate this modality into your sessions?
Farahana: I do! My mom has been a Reiki Master for a few years now. I never thought I too would follow suit. Sure enough though, on my healing journey, I became more curious about Reiki. I was looking for the “right” Reiki guru to guide me on this journey. To no surprise, my guru was sent to me with divine timing.
Kenny: Where do you offer these sessions?
Farahana: I currently share space at the House of Authentic Presence which is located in Dallas, TX. I also offer sessions during the meditations classes that I hold there, as well as at my clients’ private residences. I am also reaching out to corporate companies who wish to explore wellness programs for their employees. The initiative that I have started is called The M+M Series, we offer services in mindfulness, meditation, sound healing and Reiki to interested clients.
Kenny: Tell us about your book? What was your motivation for writing the book?
Farahana: My most recent publication is a children’s book called “Doing and Being”. It focuses on teaching children about using their senses and breath to focus on the present moment. Mindfulness has become a regular practice in our home since my separation. It has helped my son and I handle difficult emotions and experiences helping to remind us about the importance of the present moment rather than focusing on pain from the past and anxiety about the future. We have discovered that there are “presents in our present moment”.
Kenny: Seems like this would be a great gift for the holidays. How can folks learn more or order a copy?
Farahana: The book is available through Balboa Press or on Amazon!
Kenny: I know you are also a professional speaker. What are your presentations about and do you have any upcoming events?
Farahana: Yes! I am a very passionate speaker and I share my story to inspire people to recognize that our life experiences happen for us not to us. My life has taken a complete 180 and I have turned my pain around and found my purpose. I am passionate about speaking to all people who are looking to find purpose in their life, who are ready to stop being the victim of their life so that they can become powerful advocate of their life. I am excited about talking to people who are want to live life with passion and on purpose by snapping out of autopilot mode so that they can start living awakened and purpose filled lives. I am excited about encouraging them to go inward through mindfulness and meditation and discover their hidden talents and gifts.
Kenny: Farahana, it is a pleasure to know and work with you. The sessions we co-facilitate at Cancer Care Services for patients and staff in Fort Worth several times a month are wonder filled. I’m continually inspired and impressed with your abilities and desire to serve people and communities in need.
Farahana: Thank you, Kenny!
