Experience the JOY of Mindful Living

You are invited to “Experience the JOY of Mindful Living”. The Dallas Meditation Center has arrived at 810 W. Arapaho Road, Suite 98, Richardson, TX 75080. We are home.
Dallas Meditation Center is one of the first and largest Interfaith meditation centers in North Texas. It is a place to practice Mindfulness, Meditation, Yoga, Tai Chi, Qigong, Zen Buddhism, and other traditional forms of mindful living. We are intentionally very beginner-friendly and affirm people of all ages, religions, genders, ethnicities, sexual orientations, abilities, classes, and levels of meditation experience.
Dallas Meditation Center especially welcomes those who are seeking spiritual tolerance or a safe refuge for inner healing within a genuine spiritual community. We welcome those of all faiths, those with no faith, and those who are simply searching for a more mindful life. The Dallas Meditation Center is a gathering space to safely experience community and mindfulness. It is a true refuge; one can stop by almost any day to take a class or to find quiet space to feel the JOY of mindfulness, compassion and safety. Whoever you are, and wherever you are on life’s journey, you are welcome here.
The roots of the Dallas Meditation Center go back to a Dallas native, Brother ChiSing, who spent his life seeking spiritual truths. His studies focused on Christian faith and Buddhist practices. As a result, he developed a strong Interfaith commitment and became a spiritual teacher, retreat facilitator, musician, and amazing community builder. Upon his passing, he left a legacy which continues to spread ripples of love across our city, state and world.
In January of 2006, Brother ChiSing began a weekly meditation group inspired by the mindfulness teachings of Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh. The launch of a new meditation group at a second location in January of 2007, established Awakening Heart (Community of Mindful Living) with the main gathering on Sunday evening. From those beginnings dedicated practitioners of the Awakening Heart community started offering meditation gatherings, mindfulness education, special events, and workshops for all levels of meditators at various locations throughout Dallas. The vision of creating a physical space dedicated to mindful living, meditation, wellness, and life enrichment practices was born – a place equally welcome to people of any faith tradition or no faith tradition.
In 2010 that vision manifested as the Dallas Meditation Center on Floyd Road in Richardson. The Awakening Heart Sunday gathering became the cornerstone of meditation and mindfulness practice at the new center. Over time, the Awakening Heart community grew into multiple practice groups. The Wake Up Dallas, YES group came together in May 2012 and continues to serve an ever growing community for adults in their 20’s and 30’s. Mindful Mondays, a mindfulness and meditation study group started in early 2013. The INTERBEING Sangha, a Thich Nhat Hahn based meditation practice, began the last quarter of 2013
In 2015, after 5 years in our home on Floyd Road, the building was sold to a developer, demolished and became the parking lot for a new row of restaurants along Central Expressway. Unable to quickly find a suitable and affordable new location, the Dallas Meditation Center’s core weekly offerings continued at a nearby church. While meeting at this interim location, our search for a new dedicated physical space ultimately brought us back home to Richardson.
In 2017, with a new dedicated home, the Dallas Meditation Center again became a community hub for mindfulness, meditation and wellness practices. The Dallas Meditation Center is a place where ALL are welcome to learn and be supported in practicing healthful, peaceful, and mindful ways of living.
Ultimately all these services and practice groups led to the formation of One Dharma Awakening Heart Dallas Meditation Center, a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) nonprofit human services organization dedicated to providing meditation and wellness practices and education for the public.
