Essential Oils Aren’t JUST for Hippies?

My ex-husband knew about Essential Oils before I did. He also thoroughly believed in them. We had a couple conversations about their benefits, but I chopped up his belief to his “hippy days back” on the farm when he was younger.
On average, I was sick and at the Doctor’s office between 8 and 12 times a year. I was also in the hospital about twice a year. Both my 8 and 10 year old were also always sick. Illnesses in our house ranged from bronchitis, upper respiratory infections, strep throat to your plain old “There is nothing that can be done for you” viruses. When I was only about 4 or 5 weeks pregnant with my youngest; Gavin, I was in the hospital with the flu, upper respiratory infection and bronchitis. This just happened to be right around Christmas. By February, I had been sick three times during my pregnancy. At one point, I had a horrible cough that lasted for weeks and someone at work approached me and asked how I was feeling. He obviously had noticed that I had been sick for quite some time. I told him I was having a very hard time breathing. (Did I mention I was asthmatic?) The cough was stronger than ever. I was going through an inhaler every two weeks and I had gone through an entire box of nebulizer fluid in less than three weeks. He suggested I come to a class his wife was hosting about Essential Oils. In my head, I said “Really…you believe in that stuff too?!” but my words came out “OK, I will think about it.”
Fast forward a week and a half, I decided to go. I knew I had nothing to lose. My cough was hanging on and I was not sleeping well because of it. The class was very informative and I learned a lot. Oils were passed around, but I really didn’t like the smell of most of them. By the end of the class I felt educated, but I was still reluctant. I decided I wasn’t ready to make a purchase. I needed to talk to my then husband, before I made a purchase and to be quite honest, I still thought oils were for hippies. I was sent home with a jar full of Epsom Salt and drops of the Respiratory Oil Blend. That night I decided to take a nice warm bath with it. After my bath, I noticed I was breathing a lot easier. That night, I slept great. So the next day, I decided to take another bath in it. I felt even better! I decided a couple of days later I would go ahead and order a bottle of the Respiratory Blend, as well as, the Tension Blend. When they came in, I used them religiously. After about a week, I realized I had started telling people about these wonderful oils and how much they had helped me in such a small amount of time. By this time, I was hardly using my inhaler at all. I also had not taken any Aleve for headaches. (I had been taking on average 6 a day for headaches). I realized I needed to explore these oils more so I purchased a kit and shared the oils with friends. I was so passionate about the benefits of the oils I soon began selling them for extra income.
I now use my oils for so many things. Instead of reaching for the mainstream “Modern Medicine”, our entire family reaches for the oils. We rarely have to visit the doctor’s office and my boys are healthy with very few infections. We have had a couple minor illnesses creep in our house, but we can resolve them very quickly with the oils. I am in no way saying we don’t trust the doctor. I absolutely believe doctos serve a purpose and I am so grateful for them. I am simply saying I am now capable of managing my family’s well-being at home for those more common health concerns. It’s about sharing the gift of the earth with others so they can find the same relief that I have. Relief from side effects from certain prescription drugs and the relief from the dreaded copays and deductibles. I now know what is being put in my body and my family’s bodies. I have confidence in essential oils and highly recommend everyone to give them a try. You will find they really do work.
