Cultural tours of India are not always easy to find and locating the right one is of utmost importance. India is full of colors, people, and some places are quite congested so traveling in such a place can be overwhelming. But don’t worry the long plane trip to India will pay off with the serene and beautifully amazing, untouched destinations. Besides remarkable destinations, you will enjoy the delicious foods, warm weather, and witness cultural festivals that will astonish you entirely.
Here are 12 smart tips to keep in mind while traveling to India:
- Don’t try to cover too much-
We recommend travelers to take halts while traveling and have a night or two stay in some places. You can understand any country better if you don’t rush and in India you can experience the true atmosphere only if you take pause. You can connect with the local people more and dive into the true cultural and traditions of this incredible country steeped in tradition.
- Take diarrhea tablets-
Unfortunately, India lacks in cleanliness. Though you take care of yourself, the most common issue faced by travelers is diarrhea. Another reason this can happen is because of the spicy food. Diarrhea can often be prevented by choosing the restaurants you eat in carefully, eating only cooked foods and drinking unopened bottled water.
- Go beyond the cities-
Luxury tours India offer trips into the cities but, also the more secluded areas will provide you with traditional and local environments that you will love! Although the pace of life is slower in these villages, you will breathe in fresh air and enjoy peace and serenity.
- Cover Yourself Up-
India is a conservative destination that believes in religion, culture, and traditions. Although westernization is touching the cities of the country, if you don’t want to make yourself uncomfortable, then wear decent clothes covering your body. Wearing miniskirts or shorts will only lead to people staring. We suggest when you are in another country be respectful of their customs. The locals will be more friendly when you act accordingly.
- Take off your shoes before exploring temples-
India hosts a large number of Hindus, which is why the country is also named “Hindustan”. Therefore, you will come across innumerable temples you will want to explore. Journey in the temples and enjoy witnessing the faith of people in the divine energy and the way they worship their Gods. Taking off your shoes outside the temple is necessary, which is considered respectful to God.
- Don’t be afraid of the local pharmacy-
If you happen to get sick while traveling, then seek a doctor’s advice or take medicines from the local pharmacy. There is no need to worry thinking a pharmacist will give you wrong medicines. You’ll be fine!
- Learn to bargain-
Bargaining is the friendliest activity that you will enjoy in India. However, if you’re not from a nation where haggling is not a trend, then you might feel a bit awkward. But later on, you will enjoy and recall this memory. Whenever you’re shopping local, the shopkeeper will quote a price on which you can haggle looking at the worth of the product.
- Watch out for pickpockets-
If you’re exploring crowded places of India, then beware of pickpockets. Like any other city, you’ll most likely never get your belongings back, so make sure that you take care of your stuff properly. Don’t carry your wallets or small bags in hand or in the back of your jeans, keep it safely in a huge bag so that pickpockets will stay away from you.
- Go for vegetarian food-
In India, most are vegetarians. Undoubtedly, there are restaurants that offer non-vegetarian options but try switching from your routine food. Give vegetarian food a try and enjoy the variety of dishes. Vegetarian food is healthy and will help prevent you from getting sick during travel.
- Couples- Don’t show off your affection publicly-
As I have mentioned before India is a conservative nation, having an intimating scene in the public is not acceptable here. This is against the Indian culture and people around you will not appreciate it. Keep your affections like hugging, kissing, and holding hands in public discreet in respect of locals around you.
- Eat with your hands-
Well, this may sound quite weird to you. But learn how to eat with your hands, for instance, you’re eating some curry and rice. You need to mix everything with hands and roll the hands towards your mouth. This is worth trying! Remember; don’t use your left hand for eating because this hand is considered to be unclean as per Indian traditions.
- Count money exchanges carefully-
Whenever you purchase anything and the rupees you handover is larger than the amount you need to pay, then wait for the change. Once you receive the change, count it carefully because this is one of the common types of scams in India. Sometimes it can be unintentionally, but you need to be careful in every aspect.
- Be nice to the cows!
They are everywhere you go…in the street, in the shops, on bridges, laying down, walking in groups, playing and even in the restaurants. People in India believe in reincarnation, hence the vegetarianism, and they are respect to all animal life. So, be nice to the cows.
- Don’t pet the monkeys (or dogs)
Not only will you see cows everywhere, you will see monkeys roaming the streets and in the trees. Whatever you do, don’t try to pet the monkeys. Even though they are cute and look friendly they are not! Do not go too close to them and if they want any food you happen to be carrying…then give it to them! It’s not worth having a confrontation with a monkey…some of them have big teeth! The same goes for stray dogs.
