Kaiut Yoga: A Different Approach
Interview with Christina Siepiela
Dallas Yoga Magazine wanted Christina Siepiela to share her story about Kaiut Yoga and why she is so passionate about this style. She is a delight and has a remarkable story of how yoga assisted in healing her ailments while leading her on a new life’s journey.
DYM: When and how did you first learn about Kaiut Yoga?
Christina: I met Francisco in 2001 when I was living in Brazil. He was a Kaiut Yoga teacher in the city. I had developed severe sciatic pain that ran through my legs to my feet. Someone told me that if I tried yoga it could help and Francisco was the one I should meet. I went to visit him and he did an evaluation on my body as well as my lifestyle. We started practicing 3 times a week for about 4 years. Within 3 months, my pain was completely gone. My stressful and busy schedule was also starting to shift for the better. Francisco also focuses on mindset and the intention of what we are doing in our lives and to our bodies.
DYM: How is Kaiut Yoga different from other styles of yoga?
Christina: Kaiut Yoga is different because of the approach. The method approaches the joints and the body as a biomechanical system. We see that the body can connect with our minds when we hold the poses longer and when we establish a connection with our bodies in a different way. We also believe the method approaches the way the mind should be working in the modern life, with more relaxation, less stress, more mindfulness.
DYM: Tell me about the school you are opening here in Dallas.
Christina: This will be the first Kaiut Yoga School in the US with Francisco Kaiut as an owner. We currently have three schools in the US, but those are franchises. All 3 of those are in Colorado. They have a good community of teachers and students established already. His idea for Dallas is to mirror his school in Brazil that he has worked on for over 30 years.
DYM: When will this location open?
Christina: We plan to open in the fall of 2019. In the meantime, we are doing workshops with Francisco; usually twice a year. I am also starting to teach classes next month at Bent Tree Country Club. Our goal is to show the Dallas community the benefits of this method that has a history in Brazil.
DYM: Can you share with me some details for the workshop you have coming up in July?
Christina: The workshop will be July 12th – 15th at the Bent Tree Country Club. Francisco will be doing classes and lectures. He will be talking about the methods after each class; introducing this method, why he thinks this method works, sharing his story, etc. This is open to anyone! Whether you are someone who loves yoga or if you’ve never done yoga before, if you’re young or old, etc.
We very much encourage the purchase of the entire weekend for the workshop so you can immerge yourself in the method and really view the techniques of the practice. We are also offering smaller packages if you cannot attend the entire weekend.
DYM: Is there anything else you would like to share?
Christina: It’s always good to try something different or experience a change. We know we live in a modern world where we are so busy and we overschedule ourselves so we think we cannot change. Our bodies are usually the parts of ourselves that suffer the most and we don’t realize that until our knees or our backs give out. Our main goal is to show the Dallas community that this can really help change your lifestyle and your body. I think it’s worth it to at least give Kaiut Yoga a try!
DYM: Thank you Christina for explaining more about Kaiut Yoga. We are looking forward to meeting Francisco and learning more.
