Egglicious! 15 CE Hours for Teachers
Why Teachers Love the Egg Shaped Yoga Prop
Debbi K. Levy, owner of Transformation Yoga, is a huge proponent of The Egg! She has used this yoga prop in her classes for years replacing the block shaped prop. She shares with us why she loves The Egg so much and how it has helped her personal practice and her students. Debbi is also BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND at the Cosmic Yogi Festival where she will be teaching a class. You can find her class time on the schedule at www.CosmicYogiFestival.com.
The Three Minute Egg Yoga Prop teacher training by the inventor and International Yoga Teacher, Jason Scholder, will be in Dallas for the Festival. If you are a teacher and are interested in receiving 15 CE Hours or are just a student wanting to improve your practice, then sign up! Click Here for more information.
DYM: Can you tell everyone why you are passionate about the Egg prop?
Debbi: I am passionate about the Three Minute Egg yoga prop because it takes you to a place where you can feel a pose enough to begin to get an idea of it. Pretend you are in Padmasana and you want to “lift it up”. The Egg lets you get your hand around it as if it is an extension of your arm, and you know what you can do when your arms are three inches longer? You can focus where it’s going to come from in your core to “LIFT IT UP!”
Let’s do another one. Trichonasana…so many of us are excited to touch the ground here and open that side body DEEPLY. Three Minute Egg says, “I’ll let you have the sensation without compromising the pose and sticking out your backside to feel it.” Let me restate and stress…although any square block can give you distance from the ground up, the shape of the Egg allows it to be an extension of your own body.
DYM: What do your students say about the Egg?
Debbi: My students love The Egg. They utilize it in their practices during my classes regularly. They put The Egg under their sacrum when their lower back hurts or they hold onto the prop while “rocking” their Half Moon posture. There is so much you can do with The Egg to better your practice. Students often ask me if they can have them or buy them from me. So, I find myself ordering them all the time.
DYM: Which class style utilizes the Eggs the most?
Debbi: Every class. Deep stretch Yoga students at my corporations go to the shelves and get them before I even walk in. They use them restoratively to remove all the compression from sitting at their desks. My Slow Flow classes use them like extra arms. They put the Eggs at the top of their mat for traveling and for Sun Salutations. These classes also love to play with pushups and the Eggs give us more height, so we descend from those pushups to build upper body strength. The main reason this works so well is because we can hold them around the edges and get a safer grip that intensifies our postures.
DYM: Why would you recommend the Yoga Teacher Training with the inventor of TheThree Minute Egg, Jason Scholder?
Debbi: I’ll give you my David Letterman Top 10:
10. Because inventors offer original perspectives and are cool dudes.
- Because this training is not everywhere, it is special and unique.
8. Because yoga teachers deserve all the extra goodies that bring more joy to their practices and their students practices.
7. Because Jason is a real comedian and this training will be FUN!
6. Because these Eggs grow your arms.
5. Because bonding with a group of teachers while learning together doesn’t happen very often after teacher training.
4. Because Jason teachers receive 15 CE hours and will laugh while doing it!
- Because you get a manual and Eggsfor yourself and your students in addition to training.
2. Because you will get to look and practice your poses with the guidance from an international yoga instructor and that means progress.
1. Because for teachers your greatest joy is helping students fulfill their yearning to practice yoga in a meaningful way, and these Eggs were invented for that purpose.
DYM: Anything else you would like to share?
Debbi: There is so much about Yoga in today’s world that is in a box. These Three Minute Egg props, from their weird name to their oddly unique shape, insist you look at life (and your practice) in a new way. The Egg requires you redefine your pose. We all really need this in our practices, and in our teaching. I guess what I really mean is that The Three Minute Eggs asks us to explain things differently resulting in more thoughtful teaching approaches.
DYM: Anything else?
Debbi: Come to our teacher training, get your 15 hours of CE credits, and let Jason Scholder, Debbi Levy, Dallas Yoga Magazine and the Cosmic Yogi Movement spoil you for the weekend. You will leave the weekend with an exciting new approach that will be refreshing to both teacher and student. Namaste!
